Bram Cohen interview in SF Chronicle

Good interview with Bram Cohen, inventor of BitTorrent, in the Sunday San Francisco Chronicle. Cohen will be giving an industry perspective speech at our upcoming Video on the Net event in Boston, Sept. 12-14.

In case you've been on the moon and don't know what BitTorrent is, here's a brief description from Cohen's show bio:

BitTorrent is both the name of the peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution protocol and the client application for it created by Cohen. BitTorrent is designed to widely distribute large amounts of data without incurring the corresponding consumption in server and bandwidth resources (and typically, monetary fees attracted as a result of that). Currently, BitTorrent has more than 45 million users worldwide.

Though infamous for its use by peer-to-peer networkers -- who don't always share legal content -- BitTorrent is making strides to go legit, as its deal with Warner Bros. earlier this year shows.

So what is a VONosphere, anyway?

Is it a news site? Is it a videoblog? Is it something you've never seen before? What it is, is... THE VONOSPHERE. The place where all things VON -- voice, video and vision for the IP communications industry -- come home to roost.

If you need more explanation, this portal is meant to serve as the main gathering point for all the varied types of content already being produced at Pulvermedia, Pulver.com, the Pulver Podcast Network and VON Magazine, as well as on our featured blogs, The Jeff Pulver Blog, Paul Kapustka's Blog, and the VONoblog.

Led by editor Paul Kapustka (me) the VONosphere is an independent, objective center for information about IP-enabled communications as well as the Voice and Video over IP industries.

Tune in and turn on, and read, listen and watch what we do since we will be adding features as rapidly as our quality control department, editorial team and feng shui consultants allow.
